My Hair Story

I've been slacking on my Hair blogs lately, so I decided to tell y'all my whole hair story & how my hair journey began etc.

To start off my mom did all my relaxers when I was relaxed & I never got them at a salon b/c we didn't have the money for it; I never knew until I went on my hair journey that my mom was actually Over Processing my hair b/c she would always re-apply the relaxers for my new growth all over my head, instead of just on the new growth like you were supposed to. I remember that I always got one every 3 months & didn't really know what it was exactly, just that it made my hair straight & my mom said "Everybody gets them" so that's why I had to get them too.

I always had hair down to the middle of my back until one day when I was taking out some braids by myself for the 1st time, I accidentally cut my real hair while trying to cut off the weave & my hair was a little passed my ears after I looked in the mirror. Since my hair was so short my mom bought me a string ponytail & I wore that as a protective style for 2 years straight, then started wearing my hair out again after it was shoulder length (that was near the end of 9th grade I think).

Once I started wearing my own hair out again that's when I started looking up how to take better care of my hair, but didn't start taking really good care of it until 12th grade after I had dyed my hair Auburn for my 18th birthday & then dyed it back after 3 months b/c I didn't have the money to take care of it + that's also when I had to get my hair cut all the way up to my ears b/c of heat damage & b/c of a bad relaxer my mom gave me. That was March 10th, 2011 & when I finally started getting serious about getting healthy hair & doing research about natural hair after finding the website Nappturality I decided I was NEVER gonna get another relaxer ever again after that.

May 18th, 2011 is when I got a Mini Chop so my relaxed hair would grow out faster & so I could get rid of some of the damaged hair sucking up all my nutrients. Then I transitioned for 6 months & did the Big Chop at a salon & had a 3inch TWA. I found out what my hair type was after finding ShelleyBean729 on YouTube & my hair is 3c/4a.

I'm lazy with my hair + don't know how to braid, so I've done Wash 'n Goes with my natural hair everyday from the start of my BC. I have all my staple products & have been natural for almost a year now. I'm not a product junkie b/c I'm very frugal + don't have that much money I can spend. I'm not as crazy about hair as I was when I 1st began my hair journey b/c I feel like I have all the information I wanted to know/learn, I only go on the hair forms maybe once a week now just to look at other peoples blogs & see what's going on. My natural hair isn't a big deal to me anymore & it's just a regular part of my life now, as if I've been natural all my life LOL.

When I have time I'll write a blog about my Hair Regimen, but for now hope you enjoyed hearing my story =)
