Important announcement - Please read

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the closures of 3 Pulp Stores across the UK with immediate effect.

In order for Pulp to further develop as a company we have taken the difficult decision to close 3 of our stores.  This means we can focus on delivering the best alternative fashion to the high street in our remaining 6 stores.

They are as follows:
  • Wakefield Trinity Walk
  • Stratford (London) Westfield
  • Derby Westfield
The remaining 6 stores and our online service www.thisispulp.co.uk continue to trade, as normal.

We are soon to be launching our new and improved website.  This will stock a much larger range of products and brands, giving you the opportunity to still purchase your favourite Pulp products.

We would like to thank all of our customers, old and new for their support of these stores. Whilst these stores will no longer exist we of course still value your custom and would like to offer you free delivery for any online purchases until 31/03/12.  Full details can be found at the bottom of this page.

Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you soon at one of our other Pulp locations. Click here for stores www.thisispulp.co.uk/view/storelocator

And keep checking our website and Facebook page for all the latest Pulp news

Sunday

Sunday I had Rite of Sending at 10:30 mass and then Rite of Elections in Columbus in the afternoon.

Chris stayed home with Maddie and Ty because they still have nasty coughs and I have diagnosed Ty with a double ear infection. They were not too pleased that I was going to church without them!

Ty cheered up when Chris said that he would invite Mimi and Papaw over.

Chris had to paint Maddie's nail for her because I didn't have time before church. Didn't he do a great job?

Quick Trip

Friday night Chris had a tournament game in Marysville so I loaded up the kids and went to Wilmington. Ma and Pa had been on vacation and we hadn't seen the fam since Carson's birthday party.
Maddie and Ty have horrible colds so we just stayed in and played with Carson and Logan during the 24 hours we were in Wilmington.
Aunt Tracey taught Ty had to use Logan's video camera. He thought that was pretty cool.
Carson lost his two front teeth!
Isn't that the best smile?
(Maddie has lost 5 teeth. She can show you! Wherever she has a gap that is where she has lost a tooth.)
Boys will be boys.
always wrestling
Carson getting Ty because he has Pez.
Maddie showing off some gymnastics moves.
Trying to capture the busyness in the room. The cousins were playing a game of money in the middle.
They move so fast they are just a blur!
It was a short but good trip.
Anyone come to one of PULPs All Time Low signings? See if you can spot yourself on their UK tour video!

Difference between a Regular Cosmetologist & a Master Cosmetologist

This link shows what a Master Cosmetologist learns etc. & how much better they are than a regular cosmetologist. I'm studying to become a Master Cosmetologist right now & just wanted to share =D Last time I didn't know the difference so I couldn't tell anything about it.

I think if you go to a Master Cosmetologist, then they'll take better care of your hair in a Healthy way bc we are taught to do hair in the healthiest way. But our instructor said once we are licensed that we can do hair however we want, so if a Master Cosmetologist doesn't treat your hair the healthiest way, then they are prob. just lazy, want to do everything the way THEY want to do it etc. & not do it the proper way they were taught. (Hopefully they won't be hired anywhere, but ...)

"One of the advantages of working as a master cosmetologist is that it is possible to work on hair, skin, or nails. Many people choose to work in a specific field after they are licensed, but they enjoy having their options open. Their practical experience and training in hair, skin, and nails also allows them to work with other cosmetologists more easily, and to help their clients to make good choices about their beauty regimens."

"Because a master cosmetologist is more experienced and better trained than some regular cosmetologists, he or she tends to be more employable. It is often easier to find work with a master cosmetology certificate, and to request a higher salary or negotiate a better contract. Some clients also actively seek out people with a master cosmetologist certification, to ensure that they can benefit from at least a year of experience in the field."

Hair Survey

1. Why did you start taking better care of your hair?
I started taking better care of my hair in 11th grade, but when my mom gave me a REALLY bad relaxer & I had to get my hair cut from shoulder length to ear length; that's when I got SERIOUS. I wanted long HEALTHY hair & stopped doin all the bad things my mom taught me to do to my hair and started doing things I learned from YouTube & hair websites.

2. What are your 2 favorite products?
Argan Oil Daily Moisturizing Shampoo(sulfate-free) it smells like an island & moisturizes my hair w/o striping it also gets my scalp clean. Mane 'N Tail Herbal Essentials Spray Therapy it detangles, works as a heat protector & a leave-in cond. I LOVE it & it can be used for so many things<3

3. Who's hair did you admire as a child? As a child, I had hair down to the middle of my back so I didn't care about anybody elses hair. But now I admire Espiranza Spalding's hair<3

4. What is your ultimate goal length?
Right now it's shoulder length, but I really would like a BAA!! =D
5. How are you going to celebrate when you reach it?
Prob. make a YouTube video & post pics on my blog www.facebook.com/MomosMoment =)

6. Two styles you want to try at your goal length?
Curl Rods & Bantu Knot Out

7. Which do you prefer: Health or length?
HEALTH!!! After growing up with my mom damaging my hair for 13 yrs & not cuting all the dead ends off bc she wanted me to have Long hair, I don't CARE about long hair!! If it's long, but F'd up the length means NOTHING!!

8. Which do you prefer: Hair ties with no metal parts, or butterfly clips?Bows with no metal parts, clips take too much time for me ;P

9. What products do you prefer: salon brands, organic brands, BSS brands or drugstore brands?
Just bc it says it's 'Organic' doesn't mean it is & salon brands cost too much for me right now. So I like Beauty Supply Stores & Drugstores ;)

10. Which product/technique do you think is over-rated?
Product: Kinky-Curly Custard, it works great but is WAY too much for that lil gar
Technique: Oil rinses after shampooing, it just seems like a lot of work & waist of oil that could be used on your ends etc.

11. Which product/technique do you think is under-rated? Product: HE Hello Hydration, just bc it isn't all natural doesn't mean you shouldn't try it
Technique: Braid/Twist/Bantu Knot Outs, do it the right way & it'll look perfect + last for days!!

12. What is your favorite part of your hair regimen?
Using my products, pampering my hair & seeing the results/progress =D

13. What is the most annoying part of your hair regimen?
Doing my hair when I don't feel like it & when hair falls out in the shower

14. Oils or butters?
Oils, I LOVE Tea Tree, Olive & Coconut oil!!<3 Butters are too greasy for me~

15. Bun or ponytail?
Low ponytail(afro puff)

16. Wig or weave (or neither)?
Human weave as a protective style

17. What is your opinion on growth aids?
Biotin and Hair Skin & Nails work good

18. What length do you consider long?
Below Shoulder Length

19. When is the last time you've been to a salon?
May 18th, 2011 when I got my mini chop

20. What do you like to surf the most: youtube channels, personal blogs or hair forums?
YouTube!!

21. And finally, what piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out their hair journey?
I would tell them to like my FB pg so I could help them whenever they need advice or tips(www.facebook.com/MomosMoment) Tell them about reading the back of all products before buying them, don't get obsessed over length or other ppl's hair. And DGAF what other ppl think or say about your natural hair bc it's not hurting them & it's what God gave you; if you weren't supposed to wear it then you wouldn't have been born with it.

Perm & a Relaxer, there IS a difference!! Use the Right Term

I’m sure you all know that a Perm & a Relaxer are 2 different things, but for some reason ppl like to still calll a Relaxer a ‘Perm’. I HATE when ppl do that!!! I think if you’re at home or just talking to friends or whatever, it’s fine.

But if you’re in the salon, beauty store, talking to a cosmetologist or your hair stylist etc. You should use the RIGHT term!! We know what you mean, but sometimes when we’re really busy & have clients back-to-back & you say you want a “Perm” instead of a Relaxer. We might give you JUST what you said, a PERM. And if that happens then you're not gonna be too happy w/ the end results. I've heard it happened before, many times when stylists have a lot of clients.

“A permanent wave (Perm), a service normally geared to caucasians or people with straight hair wanting to go curly. The active ingredient in a perm is Ammonium Thioglycolate.” Black ppl & any other race can get Perms too, it just depends on what their hair is like. If your hair is already curly, kinky or coily then you shouldn’t get one.

“A Relaxer is the correct term for chemically straightening the hair. The active ingredient in a relaxer is Sodium Hydroxide, Calcium Hydroxide, or Lithium Hydroxide depending on the type of relaxer(regular strengths, no-lye or lo-lye, sensitive scalp etc).”

White ppl & any other race, can also get a Relaxer, as long as their hair is not Thin b/c then it would be too strong for their hair & it would fall out/off.

Shampoos & pH

In Cosmetology we talked about all the different kinds of shampoos/cond. & what they're all used for/do + the pH in them. pH- A figure expressing the acidity or alkalinity of a solution on a logarithmic scale on which 7 is neutral, lower values are more acid, and higher values more
alkaline.

The pH scale for products runs from 0(lowest) to 14(highest) nothing more & nothing lesser than that. The pH of Battery Acid is 1.0-2.5 & if you know how bad battery acid is, just think how normal Relaxers have a pH of 12. Normal shampoos that you can buy in public places(not salons) have the same pH level as battery acid & can peel the paint off your car, some also has the same stuff that Comet Cleaner has inside it.

Sulfate-free shampoos & ones w a pH of 4-7 are ones you should look for to use. We talked about how when you see public places saleing prof. products in their store, it prob. is just: watered down, expired/old, or they have a salon in their store & that's why they have them(those should be OK, but you never know).

There are NO "White" or "Black" products & if you're gonna think that way(closed-minded) then you shouldn't be in cosmetology. Just repeating what we were told, I've had 2 bad stylists that were very ignorant & used to tell me I couldn't use Aussie Moist etc. bc it was for "White" hair. Products are made to treat different conditions of the hair, they're not just for one "race of hair" bc anybody can have: coarse, thin, thick, oily, dry etc. hair.

Also we talked about how ppl think something is gonna "make" their hair grow. Products coat, treat, & help your hair, but they can't MAKE your hair grow. You have to take care of your body(what you put in it) & take proper care of your hair. Also using products from cheap stores may also be damaging your hair.

Last thing: People think if they don't wanna go to college or drop out of high school, then they can "always go to beauty school" bc it's "easy", but really it's just like taking a nursing course & is VERY serious. That's why they're trying to get rid of that rumor bc a LOT of ppl drop out b4 the second semester bc they thought like that.

We are also tryin to stop ppl from hiring unlicensed stylists in their salons. In a lot of unprofessional salons they hire ppl who aren't licensed & let them trim, cut etc. ppl's hair. They just tell them not to do chemical services & the owner/licensed one does all of that. Always make sure that you see your stylist's license b4 you let them do your hair bc it is REQUIRED they have it hanging up in their booth.

TIPS: I never knew you were supposed to tip your stylist or shampoo person bc my mom is "cheap" & thought paying for the service was enough. But I learned that just paying for the service is only helping them pay for their booth & products/supplies(stylists rent booths in the salon & pay the owner to use it). Renting a booth can be $175 and up per week. But even stylist's tips are being taken up from the state board of cosmetology when they do their taxes. My teacher said that we could just give them half or a "little" bit of our tips when we get them though, as long as we don't try to turn nothing in bc the state board knows we're getting tips. It's really wrong that they started doing that though bc it's OUR money that we EARNED. You don't just give someone a tip for nothing.

The Different Types of Shampoos & Conditioners

This is just something I had to do for my Cosmetology Course & I wanted to share it bc it might be interesting to some ppl or helpful. I got all of the info out of my Cosmetology Text book & that is where I was supposed to get all my info from. Hope you enjoy =)

There are 8 types of shampoos, the 1st is pH-Balanced shampoo which brings the hair back to the right pH and balances it back to the proper pH it’s supposed to be at when it is either too high or low. You could use it after giving a chemical service or if someone’s hair is damaged and dry.

The 2nd type of shampoo is Conditioning shampoo, also called Moisturizing shampoo; it improves the manageability of the hair and makes the hair appear smooth and shiny. It also restores moisture, elasticity, strengthens the hair shaft, adds volume and is nonstripping; so it isn’t harsh and stripping on the hair like normal drugstore shampoos. You could use this shampoo on dry, brittle, color treated or thick hair.

The 3rd type of shampoo is Medicated shampoo, which contains special ingredients that are very effective in reducing dandruff or reliving other scalp conditions, you could use this shampoo on someone who is mature in age, has a scalp condition or has a sensitive scalp.

The 4th type of shampoo is Clarifying shampoo, which removes metals from the hair like iron or copper; it can be used when someone has lots of buildup on their hair, after swimming and prior after all chemical services.

The 5th type of shampoo is Balancing shampoo, which removes excess oiliness and prevents drying; it can be used on oily hair and scalps.

The 6th type of shampoo is Dry shampoo, also called Powder shampoo, which cleans the hair without the use of soap and water. It adds volume and gets rid of oiliness, it can be used on elderly hair, oily hair or when you do not feel like washing your hair.

The 7th type of shampoo is Color-Enhancing shampoo, which is used to brighten, add a hint of color and to eliminate unwanted color tones like brassiness or overly cool strands. It can be used on anyone who wants to enhance their hair color.

The 8th and last type of shampoo is the kind for Hairpieces and Wigs, they gently cleans without shedding the hairpiece and can be used on all types of wigs and synthetic hair.

There are 3 basic types of conditioners the 1st is Rinse-out conditioner, which is a finishing rinse that is used to work through the hair, detangles and then is rinsed out. It can be used after shampooing and if you want to get hair unmated or tangled.

The 2nd type is Treatment/Repair conditioner, which deeply penetrates the hair and restores moisture and protein. It can be used to treat hair that is damaged, dry or has just had a chemical service.

The 3rd type is Leave-in conditioner, which is applied and not rinsed out; it can be used on any hair after normal conditioner is rinsed out or if you are cutting someone’s hair or blowing it out.

( ・_・)ノ⌒●~*

Work and Finals had me all tied up this week!
There is always time for stuff though~

So Dylan's Valentine gift to me arrived this week! Its the cutest thing ever! I love Luvdisc so much waaaaah~ It's adorable! ;_;

My mom visited again the other day and we went to Mitsuwa's. I was finally reunited with delicious ramen & milk tea (and of course my mom haha). It was really sweet of her to take me out. She even bought me this  big pack of instant miso soup, which I am sipping on as I type. Food outings are the best!

Also, a few days ago, I finally got my hair back to bubblegum pink. I feel much better now.
I also bought the Hello Kitty which I mentioned in my last post ^^

I think "Big Poppa" is an appropriate title for my new plush friend.

I've got a nutrition and wellness final this Friday, wish me luck!

Peking Acrobats

Monday evening we took Maddie and Ty to see the Peking Acrobats at Secrest.
Ty loved it! He was clapping, cheering, yelling "Yea acrobats!"
Maddie loved it too (even though you can't tell here!). She was extremely pleased that she could cheer through the entire performance!
I had showed Ty and Maddie some You Tube videos of the acrobats so they would know what to expect. They kept asking when the bike was going to come out. I showed them a video of like 10 acrobats on one bike! We only stayed for the first half since that lasted over an hour and it was after 8 before intermission began. We figured not to press our luck since they were being so good!
Chris picked us some sweet seats in the balcony. However, I didn't bring my zoom lens so the pictures aren't too great.
The acrobats were amazing and so talented! I would love to see them again!

Em's Birthday

Emily's birthday was over the weekend. We celebrated with her on Sunday evening at the Japanese Steakhouse in Newark. It was fun to have dinner and adult conversations with some of our best friends!
